PRESS RELEASE
LAUNCH OF THE GUIDELINES ON HARVESTING IN VILLAGE LAND FOREST RESERVE AND JOINT FOREST MANAGEMENT (JFM)
Mesuma Hall, Dar-Es-Salaam, March 23rd, 2016
Today, the Mama Misitu campaign (MMC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural resources and tourism (MNRT) launches simplified versions of Guidelines on Harvesting in Village Land Forest Reserve (VLFR) and Joint Forest Management (JFM). These simplified Kiswahili version of the guidelines have been translated from booklets which were published by the Ministry of Natural Resource and Tourism in 2013.
These manuals were prepared in English language. Hence, the MNRT and Mama Misitu campaign took initiative of translating them in plain Swahili to enable communities and other stakeholders to understand its contents and engage in Participatory Forest Management (PFM) implementation. The preparations and publications of these guidelines were sponsored by the Government of Finland.
TNRF and its partners implement the Mama Misitu Campaign (MMC). Mama Misitu is a communications initiative aiming at improving the governance of Tanzania's forestry, by reducing illegal forest harvesting so that people of Tanzania can increasingly benefit from sustainably managed forests.
