The United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit took place at the UN General Assembly in New York on 23rd September 2021. It aimed to set the stage for global food systems transformation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF) is extending gratitude to Tanzania’s President, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan with a wonderful speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the organ’s session in New York, USA. She called up for a collective commitment to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.

Climate change has been top of the agenda at this year’s UN summit. President Samia spoke about the impacts of climate change on a global scale. “The challenges of climate change are affecting food security, livelihoods, and income of our people. Tanzania's government spends 2 to 3 percent of GDP to mitigate and build the resilience of communities, and this is a lot in a country that is still fighting against poverty coupled with the emergency of the COVID19 pandemic. The pandemic has compromised the capacity to respond to the harmful impact of climate change. Therefore, our actions today determine the future of our planet in terms of climate change” She said.

In the speech, Her Excellency Samia added that the pandemic is compromising Tanzania’s capacity to respond to the harmful impacts of climate change. “Our efforts today determine the future of our planet in terms of climate change”. She insisted on urgent actions to determine the future of the planet including the wildlife resources. In her speech, President nailed it clearly and called developed countries to fulfill climate finance goals of USD 100 billion 2025 to facilitate the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
